FAQ: Automated Comments: Why and How?

As the system identifies new items to list, it will attempt to leave a comment in order to:
1. say thank you for the work, and
2. let you know your blog post will be advertised.

Some people get very upset when comments are not left while others don't like the comments... what a dilemma ;-) and I'm not sure quite how to solve this. I personally would prefer to know when my content is being advertised elsewhere and most people fall into this category.

For the viewers who are not receiving comments: right now, I don't have any software which allows the system to comment on anything other than Blogger blogs (i.e., no Wordpress, Typepad, etc) and even then it doesn't always work. Unfortunately there isn't much I can do about this until I find a solution (and have time to look).

For the viewers who do not like the comments: as you will see from the number of issues involved in maintaining this system, it simply isn't possible to customise everything to each person's preferences. The vast majority of users prefer the comments and I have tried to make them as lightweight and friendly as I can.  If this bothers you so much that you would prefer not to be listed, you can opt out. This would obviously be a pity for all the readers.

I should also add that if the system comes to a grinding halt half-way through its daily run I typically turn the commenting off for the re-run to avoid doubling up on comments. But this also means that those blogs not reached in the first run won't receive any comments. Again, I think this is the best policy as I would be really annoyed if I received multiple duplicate comments on one of my personal blog posts.
