There are hundreds of free sites for storing your freebies and there are many reasons why you might want to use them. For a start, they are managed by a bunch of IT people who can ensure that your links are always available, there are no issues with bandwidth, you never need to worry about moving links if you change domain, you don’t have to worry about whether your site goes down, etc. If you don’t already use a site for storing your downloads (even if it is a backup) then I’d really recommend you do. I used to store all my freebies that I publish on my design blog with 4shared and I found them to be completely reliable but I’ve recently moved to instead because there is less spam, more security, etc. My system has a long list of these sites that it uses to identify links to freebies and although 4shared continues to be the most popular one used by most digital scrapbookers and crafters, dropbox has become increasingly popular (perhaps due to the lack of ads or because people don’t have to wait to download). I must say that safety and a lack of pop-ups is probably a significant factor in selecting a host! I certainly get annoyed when I want to download a freebie and am bombarded by pop-up ads. The ads used on 4shared are integrated inside the window which is a much better experience. If you use a relatively unknown site for storing your freebies and I’m not aware of it, then it won’t be on my list, and the system won’t identify it. So please make sure that you tell me about it :-)
